Flame Shield® is a fire-rated composite decking board built for projects in bushfire-prone areas where compliance isn’t optional. It’s engineered with a fire-retardant additive built into the board and designed to meet BAL-12.5, BAL-19, BAL-29, and BAL-40 requirements.

It’s one of the few timber-based decking options on the market that reaches this level of fire performance, giving you a compliant solution without limiting your design options. Flame Shield can be installed over both enclosed and unenclosed substructures, making it flexible across different builds.

Beyond compliance, it’s a practical long-term choice. The boards are splinter-free, low maintenance, and built to handle harsh Australian conditions without the ongoing sanding, oiling, or upkeep that comes with timber. Flame Shield delivers a consistent, durable decking surface suited to everything from residential builds to large outdoor entertaining areas.

1. What makes Flame Shield different from standard Modwood decking?

It’s specifically formulated for bushfire-prone areas, with a fire-retardant additive that allows it to be used in higher BAL-rated applications.

What BAL levels can it be used in?

It’s suitable for BAL-12.5, BAL-19, BAL-29, and BAL-40 when installed correctly within a system and in line with regulations.
