Flat Edge Corten Steel Garden Edging System

Flat Edge is Chippy’s original Corten garden edging system. Manufactured in Melbourne from flexible 1.6 mm weathering steel, it creates clean divisions between lawns, garden beds, paths, gravel and mulch while remaining practical for straight lines, angles and natural curves.

Every edging length is 3 metres long and pre-drilled at both ends for joining. Complete the run with matching Flat Edge corners, your preferred pegs and suitable fixings.

Corten Steel Rust Garden Edging - Flat Edge

100 mm Flat Edge

Choose 100 mm where the main purpose is to separate lawn, garden beds, paths, gravel or mulch without creating a pronounced raised feature.

150 mm Flat Edge

Choose 150 mm for a more visible border, raised garden beds and modest changes in garden level.

300 mm Flat Edge

Choose 300 mm for deeper beds, more definitive landscape features and sloping gardens where additional visible height is useful.

Flat Edge corners

The purpose-made 90-degree corner provides a clean change in direction without cutting and reforming a straight length. The same corner is reversible and can be used for an internal or external corner.

Its 150 mm legs have pre-drilled holes and connect directly to adjoining Flat Edge lengths. A separate joining plate is not required at the corner.

Corten Steel Pegs

Choose the Corten peg where you want the support positioned behind the edging with a less visible fixing system.

  • 25 x 395 mm peg for 100 and 150 mm edging
  • 25 x 500 mm peg for 300 mm edging
  • 3.0 mm-thick Corten steel
  • Pre-drilled pilot holes are available if pre-drilling and pop riveting
  • Roofing screws can also be installed after clamping and marking

For Flat Edge, use a fixing toward the top and bottom of the peg. Do not position a peg directly at a join, because that would require drilling through two edging lengths and the peg.

Painted hook-over pegs

The painted red hook-over peg offers a different installation method. Position the peg so the edging slides underneath the hook and sits toward the front of the peg, then drive it to the required height.

  • 280 mm long
  • Choose a 20 or 40 mm-wide visible hook
  • 20 mm is the most common choice
  • Suitable for 100 and 150 mm edging
  • Not long enough for 300 mm Flat Edge
  • The hook remains visible from both sides

Choose the fixing method

Flat Edge lengths overlap and connect through the pre-drilled holes at their ends.

Roofing screws provide a practical fixing method that can be installed with a normal drill at slow speed.

Pop rivets create a lower-profile fixing but require the appropriate drill and rivet tool.

Do not describe one fixing as universally stronger or better unless Chippy’s has tested and documented that comparison. The choice depends on the installer’s tools and preferred finish.

Flat Edge or Safe Edge?

Choose Flat Edge when you want Chippy’s original, straightforward and more economical Corten garden border.

Consider Safe Edge when the visible top edge matters and you prefer an approximately 10 mm-wide folded top, greater rigidity for straight lines and components fitted behind the smooth finished face.

Choose according to the finished appearance and installation method required.

Material and Delivery Note

Corten is the commonly used name for weathering steel. The edging is supplied raw grey and develops its orange-brown patina outdoors through repeated moisture and drying. Rust-coloured runoff can stain concrete, paving, stone and other porous surfaces, so consider drainage before installation.

Flat Edge and its installation components can be viewed at Chippy’s Outdoor in Clayton. Eligible in-stock orders can be delivered within Chippy’s nominated Melbourne metropolitan area, subject to the current delivery-zone and minimum-order conditions shown on the website.
