Safe Edge Corten Steel Internal Corner with Safety Fold

Continue Chippy’s Safe Edge system neatly through a 90-degree internal corner without cutting or re-forming the folded top. Designed for a recessed or inside corner, it connects to the straight edging from behind using two matching joining plates.

  • Purpose-made for 90-degree internal corners

  • Maintains the continuous folded top

  • Formed to 90 degrees, with minor adjustment possible on site

  • 150 mm leg on each side

  • Available in 100, 150 and 280 mm heights

  • Pre-drilled joining holes on both legs

  • No supporting peg required at the corner

  • Designed by Chippy’s Outdoor and manufactured in Melbourne

The Safe Edge internal corner creates a clean 90-degree change of direction through a recessed or inside corner while carrying the folded top continuously through the turn.

It removes the need to cut through the safety fold and attempt to recreate the finished top on site. That gives DIY customers and professional installers a cleaner, more predictable connection and keeps the visible corner consistent with the rest of the Safe Edge run.

The folded top and formed corner add rigidity at the change of direction, so the corner does not require a supporting peg. The angle can also be adjusted slightly on site where the garden layout is not perfectly square.

This accessory is designed specifically for Chippy’s Safe Edge system. It is not the correct corner for Flat Edge Corten edging.

100 mm internal corner

  • Matches 100 mm Safe Edge garden edging
  • 90-degree internal corner
  • 150 mm legs

150 mm internal corner

  • Matches 150 mm Safe Edge garden edging
  • 90-degree internal corner
  • 150 mm legs

280 mm internal corner

  • Matches 280 mm Safe Edge garden edging
  • 90-degree internal corner
  • 150 mm legs

All sizes allow minor angle adjustment during installation. Select the corner height that matches the Safe Edge used in the same run.

Choose the internal corner where the smooth finished face of the Safe Edge turns into a recessed or inside corner. Where the smooth face wraps around the outside corner of a garden bed, planter or landscape feature, choose the Safe Edge external corner.

The internal corner forms the change of direction through a recessed or inside corner. Matching Safe Edge joining plates sit behind the two connections between the corner and the straight edging lengths.

The corner legs and Safe Edge lengths have pre-drilled joining holes. The joining plates are intentionally supplied without holes, allowing their fixing positions to be set through the pre-drilled edging and adjusted for small installation tolerances. This helps the installer align the folded tops and maintain a clean, continuous top line.

For one internal corner, allow:

  • One matching internal corner
  • Two matching joining plates—one for each side
  • A suitable roofing-screw or pop-rivet fixing packet, purchased separately

The corner does not need a peg for additional support. Its formed shape provides rigidity, and the first peg along each straight length should generally be positioned approximately 500 mm from the corner.

  1. Confirm that the smooth finished face is turning into a recessed internal corner—not wrapping around an outside external corner—and select the matching height.
  2. Set the internal corner in its final position and check the 90-degree alignment. The angle can be adjusted slightly on site if required.
  3. Bring each straight Safe Edge length to the corner.
  4. Place a matching joining plate behind each connection and align the folded tops.
  5. Clamp the joining plate firmly in position. Use a small G-clamp from underneath, or a larger G-clamp fitted over the folded top.
  6. Use the pre-drilled holes in the corner and edging to set the fixing positions through the un-drilled joining plates.
  7. Use a normal drill at slow speed with suitable roofing screws, or pre-drill the joining plate for suitable pop rivets. Roofing-screw and pop-rivet fixing packets are sold separately.
  8. Repeat the clamping and fixing process on the other side of the corner.
  9. Keep fixings in the lower third so they can be concealed where practical.
  10. Do not place a peg at either corner connection. Begin the supporting pegs along the straight edging approximately 500 mm from the corner, then check the finished line before backfilling.

The internal corner is supplied as raw grey weathering steel and will change colour as it is exposed to repeated moisture and drying. The corner and adjoining Safe Edge lengths may begin at slightly different stages of weathering, but their finishes will continue to develop outdoors.

Initial colour may appear within weeks; a fuller orange-brown patina can take a couple of months. Timing varies with the weather, season and orientation of the installed steel.

Rust-coloured runoff can stain concrete, paving, stone and other porous surfaces. Consider the surrounding surfaces and drainage before installation. The product does not need to be painted to develop its natural finish.
