Corten Steel Garden Edging Corner – Flat Edge

Create a clean 90-degree internal or external corner with Chippy’s Flat Edge Corten steel garden edging system. The purpose-made corner overlaps the adjoining straight lengths and fixes directly through the pre-drilled holes, avoiding the need to cut and form a corner on site.

The Corten steel garden edging corner is designed for Chippy’s Flat Edge system, providing a clean, ready-made change of direction for garden beds, paths and defined landscape areas. It creates a repeatable 90-degree corner without requiring the installer to cut and form a straight 3 metre edging length on site.

Because Flat Edge has no directional safety fold, the same corner can be reversed to create either an internal or external corner. This simplifies ordering and gives DIY customers and professional installers one compatible component for both corner directions.

The formed corner also adds rigidity at the change of direction, so no supporting peg is required at the corner itself.

All sizes form a 90-degree corner and allow minor angle adjustment during installation. Choose the same corner height as the adjoining edging lengths.

The corner can be reversed for an internal or external change of direction. It is designed exclusively for Chippy’s Corten Steel Garden Edging – Flat Edge system and is not compatible with Safe Edge Corten Steel Garden Edging.

The corner legs overlap the ends of the adjoining Flat Edge lengths. The pre-drilled holes allow the corner and straight edging to be fixed directly together without separate joining plates.

For one Flat Edge corner, allow:

  • One Flat Edge corner in the matching height
  • A suitable roofing-screw or pop-rivet fixing packet, purchased separately

The corner is reversible. Position it so the Flat Edge follows the required internal or external corner, then fix the corner to the first straight length before attaching the second length.

Roofing-screw and pop-rivet fixing packets are not included with the corner or edging and must be purchased separately.

No peg is required at the formed corner. Never position a supporting peg directly on either corner connection, as this would require drilling through three layers of steel.

  1. Confirm the required internal or external corner direction and select the height that matches the Flat Edge lengths.
  2. Reverse the corner where necessary so it follows the required direction.
  3. Overlap one pre-drilled corner leg with the end of the first Flat Edge length.
  4. Align the top edges and pre-drilled connection holes.
  5. Hold the overlapping components firmly with a G-clamp.
  6. Fix the corner to the first length using a normal drill at slow speed with suitable roofing screws, or use suitable pop rivets. Do not use an impact driver.
  7. Bring the second Flat Edge length to the other corner leg and repeat the overlap, alignment, clamping and fixing process.
  8. Adjust the corner angle slightly on site if required, then check the top edges and overall line.
  9. Never place a supporting peg directly on either corner connection. Position the adjoining pegs away from the overlaps.
  10. Complete the remaining edging installation before backfilling and compacting.

The Flat Edge corner is manufactured in Melbourne from 1.6 mm Corten steel and supplied in its raw grey condition. It will naturally develop an orange-brown patina through repeated exposure to moisture and drying.

The corner and adjoining edging lengths may begin at different stages of weathering. Their finishes will continue to develop after installation, with initial colour often appearing within weeks and a fuller patina sometimes taking a couple of months. Timing varies with weather, season and orientation.

Rust-coloured runoff can stain concrete, paving, stone and other porous surfaces. Consider the surrounding surfaces and drainage before installation. The product does not need to be painted to develop its natural finish.

The corner is intended to connect and align Flat Edge garden edging. It does not convert the edging into a structural retaining wall.
