ModWood Xtreme Guard adds a protective cap to all four sides of the board for greater resistance to staining, fading, scratching, mould and mildew. The Australian-made 137 × 23mm boards combine multi-tonal colour and deep woodgrain with tested footing for wet outdoor areas.

ModWood Xtreme Guard is the higher-protection range within the Australian-made ModWood collection. Its cap wraps all four faces of the composite core, helping protect the board against everyday stains, fading, scratches, mould and mildew.

The surface combines deep embossed grain with multi-tonal colour variation to create a more natural timber appearance. It will not splinter and does not require regular sanding, staining or oiling.

Xtreme Guard has achieved a P5 classification under the wet-pendulum slip-resistance test. P5 is the highest classification in that test and provides useful evidence of footing in wet conditions, making the range well suited to pool surrounds, exposed entertaining areas and commercial outdoor settings. It does not make the surface slip-proof, so normal cleaning and drainage remain important.

The colours contain highlights and darker streaking rather than one flat tone. Lay boards out before fixing so the variation is distributed naturally across the deck.

Profiles

  • Grooved edge: used with the Snap-LOC concealed fixing system across standard deck areas.
  • Solid edge: used at exposed sides, steps, borders and irregular details where the groove would otherwise be visible or a concealed clip cannot be fitted.
  • Matching colour-coated screws are available for locations that require face fixing.

Install Xtreme Guard over a properly designed, level and ventilated subframe in accordance with the current ModWood fixing instructions.

Use Snap-LOC concealed fasteners with grooved boards across standard deck areas.

Solid-edge boards and locations where clips cannot be used require the specified colour-coated face screws. Select screws suited to timber or steel framing and follow ModWood's requirements for pre-drilling, edge distances and fixing torque.

Plan the board direction, butt joins, picture-frame borders, steps and exposed edges before ordering. Maintain the specified side and end gaps and provide adequate support beneath every board end and join.

Xtreme Guard boards are decking, not structural framing. They must not be substituted for bearers, joists or other load-bearing members.

1. What makes Xtreme Guard different from other Modwood ranges?

XTG is fully capped on all four sides, which significantly improves durability, stain resistance, and long-term appearance compared to standard composite boards.

2. Is it more durable than standard composite decking?

Yes. The capped layer acts as a protective shell, helping it handle moisture, wear, and surface damage better over time.

3. Does Xtreme Guard need sanding, staining or oiling?

No. Sweep away leaves and loose debris, keep board gaps clear and wash the surface as required with water and a suitable composite-decking cleaner.

4. How should spills be cleaned?

Remove spills promptly, particularly food, grease and sunscreen. Avoid abrasive tools and unapproved chemicals that may damage the capped surface.

5. Does Xtreme Guard become hot in the sun?

All decking can become hot in direct sunlight. Darker colours generally absorb more heat, so compare physical samples when surface temperature is important.

6. Does it fade or stain easily?

It’s designed to resist staining and fading far better than uncapped composite products.

7. Is it suitable for high-traffic areas?

Yes. It’s a strong option for both residential and commercial spaces where the deck will see regular use.

8. Where is it best used?

Ideal for modern outdoor areas, pool decks, entertaining spaces, and commercial applications where finish and durability are priorities.

9. What warranty applies?

Xtreme Guard carries 25-year limited durability and fade-and-stain warranties, subject to ModWood's current terms, correct installation and appropriate care. Retain proof of purchase and the required installation records.
